Yoga | Down Dog

During COVID, Down Dog generously offered free memberships to first responders and teachers. I was genuinely grateful and, because I believed that access would continue, I chose not to buy the lifetime membership they were offering at the time. Then the lifetime option disappeared, and shortly afterward, the free memberships were quietly revoked. That sequence left a lasting impression on me. What had felt like an act of goodwill ended up feeling temporary in a way that materially affected a purchasing decision I can no longer make. I would have happily supported this company. Instead, years later, I still refuse to subscribe. Trust is easy to earn with a generous gesture; it is much harder to rebuild once that gesture is taken back.

was suggested this as a free app, but it’s actually a subscription with a free trial. App also uses generative ai. If I’m going to spend money to learn yoga, I’d rather spend it on an actual instructor.

Changing my previous 5 star review to one star for shady business practices.

I have subscribed to this app since 2023, but have noted the quality of the auto-generated flows declining. An 80 minute vinyasa beginner 2 program was 45 minutes (huh?) and half an abs workout (dead bugs and crunches?) with terrible pose transitions (nonexistent.) This app served me well for a long time, but is not suitable for anyone serious about their practice.

Please restore the direct download button for online practices. In older versions, I could download a practice as I started it, but now I have to create offline practices separately. This makes it hard to repeat specific yoga flows I enjoy when I do not have internet, and it's been a disappointing change.

I use this app all the time. Every single day until you changed it and now I can never get the app to load. I spend the entire time I have for yoga reloading the app and trying to get it to open. If I delete and reload it from the App Store three times it finally opens but really. I feel like it’s a waste of time and money now I will not be subscribing again and am looking for a more friendly app

I don’t recommend this app for the simple fact that it does not listen. I’ve been using it for two months and it’s stretched only my hips. No matter how much I have tried to program stretches that target the arms and chest and shoulders, this app gives nothing but hips and quads. In a 30 min practice with chest and shoulders as the focus we did zero chest or shoulder stretches, hips and quads only. So then I programmed a 5 min only chest and shoulders and it did one stretches for my triceps and then straight back to a quad stretch for the remainder of the practice. Use a different app that will actually listen to you and your body, not whatever it wants.

This app is actually getting worse. With each upgrade there are less useful features. Definitely not renewing subscription.

Pro went up $50. Not worth it

I love the price and the many, many options Down Dog offers—choose your level, the kind of music you want played from classical to ethereal New Age and many between, also the guide’s voice can be male or female and in a variety of accents, and how long of a session from six minutes to at least an hour and a half (maybe more). Also they keep adding different styles from tradition hatha to yin and many more. It’s a real bargain. Only thing I find quite tasteless are the gynecological zoom shots of the model in certain bends , floor twists, and invisible OB stirrups poses—really—like the camera person couldn’t do a ceiling/ladder downward shot? Thus you might find this uncomfortable with your guy or dad/uncle/brother or, heaven forbid, your teenage boy in the room.

All of the guidance voices and the video examples of people doing the poses are extremely creepy. I think the people might be AI. There’s just something very creepy and off.

I have been faithfully using this app every day for well over 5 years and I’m sorry to say that with each update, everything gets worse. One update completely erased every single pose that I liked or disliked (which was well over 100), and support basically told me to suck it up when all of that was erased due to an update. You can log in on different devices, but don’t expect your parameters to transfer over. When I log in on my iPad when I’m traveling, every single parameter that this app is praised for is completely erased and I have to reset them every time. What’s the point of even having an account? Especially if tech support isn’t actually going to support you? My thought was that app updates were meant to make the app better, but over the years, every single update they’ve churned out has made the app progressively worse, and support evidently does not care. Find yourself a yoga app that actually cares about you and what you need.

Deleted this app after 2 minutes of having it. Why would anyone want to led through yoga by a lifeless looking AI “instructor”? If anything, you won’t learn how to do the practice correctly. Look elsewhere.

I’d gladly give this app a higher rating if it didn’t nag me for an app review after *every* yoga session.

Seriously??? Each yoga practice is generated with ai. You can’t see an actual instructor doing the pose. There is no actual instructor. Disappointing and LAZY

Even using beginner setting, it’s not beginner friendly

Had to delete my previous review to add this. This company went from free to a payment of over $10 a month which I refused. I recently tried again (after 2 years) and after I put all of my info in it prompted for payment. Especially at these times, we ALL need a little help. When the app let me sign in and provide every detail for my workout, I assumed they’d gone back to the usual. Again promoted for my credit card, I gave up. Maybe I’m a Karen but after YEARS of using this app I never expected to be robbed. I watched the ads. I signed in. I used to support this but no longer. I’m done with you and thank you for never responding to any criticism you’ve ever gotten. It’s been very noteworthy and I’ve told every person I’ve met to NEVER use your app. 💛

I remember using this app completely free 3-4 years ago :( Although i loved it, i will not pay for something i can find online for free. More effort required? Maybe but worth it to me.

Down dog used to be a go to for me and helped greatly with some issues. Decided to recently jump back in and I find everything is hidden behind pay to use walls. More than a little disappointing.

Not at all like my yoga studio. No modifications, nothing surprising, no soul. Just the minimum for those wanting basic instruction w/ nothing extra.

Was horrible during savashana. I felt like I got trapped at a congregational church during yoga. It was a horrible way to end a wonderful yoga session. There was a repetitive and grating on the mind.

I used to really love Down Dog, but for the past few months they’ve double charged my account and their support team is impossible to reach.
