#92 top-grossing, Lifestyle
Store ratings include star-only taps from in-app prompts, which skew high. The peak and recent figures come only from people who wrote a review, which skews low. Compare each against itself: the drop is the signal, and a big gap between the two usually means heavy rating prompting is masking unhappy users.

I was a fan up until a week ago. I haven’t been able to sign in over a week. I can’t get any help.
I don’t need a login for a thermostat and when I try to create an account it fails. Makes me want to rip the thing off the wall and throw it out the window
If the app developers don’t fix the app quickly they will LOSEa customer!! App is always going offline and NOTHING is wrong with the WiFi!!!
The app works, but the organization is poor and some things are just broken. If you follow the install directions you will install the thermostat upside down!! (Really!) if you try to change the thermostat name it just ignores your change. The “smart” features are so badly explained it’s tricky to figure what is happening. You can set a schedule, hit how does that adjust when you have room sensors? What does the mysterious ecobee+ do on top of that? It’s all a mess. The schedule setup is clunky, since you have to setup “comfort” settings and then assign them to times. Good I suppose for complex setups but for the basics it’s overkill. Finally, it’s SLOW. Tapping a menu can take 4-5 seconds to process, with no UI feedback to show what is happening.
Hire a proper UX designer please, your app is so hard to use and navigate. Every time I want to turn off the ac or heater, it always took me forever to find the settings.
It didn’t do it when I bought it, why - exactly- do you think it’s okay to change core functionality AFTER I can no longer return. That should be illegal
The app is down often. The developers can’t seem to keep up with Apple updates. Doorbell camera is useless when the app is offline.
The app was prompting me for weeks to verify my email, but always failed to render the verification page. Now it asks me to log into my account, but same problem. I keep thinking the devs will fix this, but apparently not
They went from showing an ad for their other products you don’t own like once a month to now every single time you launch the app. Incredibly intrusive and unpleasant
Switching temp on app should trigger a “eco +” notification asking if you want to turn it off if it’s going to go past the limit that is set. Instead the app lets you change the temp and you come home to your setting not actually set. How does this make sense. I truly wish I bought a nest thermostat. I continue to not recommend ecobee to family and friends.
Don’t migrate from generac app. All over the place looking for permissions. If you put a banner in the generac app advertising it as an upgrade. At least pretend to act like one
The app now makes you repeatedly log in just to open the app. I’ve been using ecobee thermostats since 2016 and will no longer support this company. They went from a great app that did what you wanted to a clunky sales platform constantly wanting to sell you stuff. Disgusting.
This app is terrible. The weather data that is used for my ecobee devices is regularly inaccurate by 15-20 degrees. The login and auth features are filled with server errors. I am unable to verify my email and set up a 2fa code because of server errors. I worked for Okta for a year as an engineer; I know what I’m doing when it comes to this stuff. It’s amazing to me that the app experience is this bad. Thank goodness my thermostat integrates with HomeKit because I’ll avoid ecobee interfaces like the plague.
All I want this thermostat to do is control my temperature without collecting information about me, is that too much to ask? Everytime I open this app, it nags me about email addresses. Whats next, demanding my SSN? I am going to replace these modern horrors with old fashioned round thermostats
It’s so sad that it’s a great company that has such great customer service can’t make a better app. But I make one change on the schedule and reset the entire schedule and I cannot change it back. I will have to go back to my laptop to make changes. Absolutely terrible.
App used to work fine. Now after updating, it never connects and keeps annoying you about your email.
Constantly pushing more products on us. I don’t like that. Having to correct location randomly cause app goes nuts… o and constantly having to updated for a thermostat. Sad
Can’t edit comfort settings from the app except for predefined Home, Away, and Sleep settings. Try to edit a custom setting and the app freezes and must be force closed. App would be great without bugs like this.
Totally made the scheduling of comfort settings more difficult with the update. It was so easy to schedule temp changes etc. Now it has become totally frustrating to get the times you want correct.
App will nag you about confirming your email endlessly. Would avoid purchasing this product again just based on this.
I’ll pass on the toast items and verify email. Warm regards
stay away from this thermostat and app. It will cost you a lot of money in wasted electricity. I have it set at 78F but it keeps changing it to 75F by itself. I adjust it back to 78F but it won’t turn off AC, just keeps running. This will cost you lots of money. Don’t purchase or use this brand
Or maybe it's the device itself , I don't know but it needs to stop disconnecting from the internet.
2 starts only because the app functions properly. However, there needs to be more options for the user to have control of the system. It’s absolutely ridiculous that a user can’t set the system to turn off at a specific time or disable the schedule completely. The user is completely trapped into using their AC system the way this app thinks is best and not how they actually want it. If I buy a thermostat it should do what I tell it, not whatever it wants. There’s no reason this can’t be done, and years and years of complaints online about this issue have been ignored. If I wasn’t a renter, I’d trash this app and thermostat immediately.
The app will freeze if I try to edit custom comfort settings I created
What would it take to build a viable competitor, what would it cost to run every month, and a prompt to get started. Generated from the reviews on file; one LLM call per brief. Set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for a real brief; the stub only fills in a template.
