OpenSnow

OpenSnow was great and I used it for everything, all of the sudden they decided that there would be no more free version and you have to pay $50 a year. The free version is terrible and not even worth downloading.

Used to get some forecast for free, now the app is useless without subscription

I have used this app for many years. I understand the need to make a profit but $49 a year is very expensive for what this is. The last few years have seen a ~$20 a year subscription pushed to $49 with tiers removed. I only use this app during winter so that value proposition is low. I prefer to see overhead dropped so that it’s more affordable. The economy is hard right now and I’m considering other options for the first time rather than just paying the massive hikes in price.

I set up alerts and it just never worked during my free trial. There were definitely Alerts during that time. Probably won't ever use this app again.

I enjoyed using OpenSnow and appreciated its pricing model for the All-Access subscription. However, OpenSnow cancelled the All-Access subscription and changed subscribers to their Base subscription and introduced a higher subscription, Premium. I didn’t appreciate being baited and switched to a subscription that was no longer fitting of the original name, so I have stopped subscribing to OpenSnow and use free alternatives now.

Use to love this app until they started adding AI modeling and summaries that nobody asked for. Not to mention the forecasts beyond 5 days are a total fugazi. Yet another unserious company riding the hype train that's going to be the ruin of us all

We’ve had the family plan since open snow first rolled it out and it was great. Slowly migrating all of the useful features away from something we were paying $90 a year for into something they want us to pay $180 a year for feels slimy and scammy. Especially when most of the map layers are re-skinned NWS products, and someone decided a few weeks ago to give the radar legend the most ugly and useless UI in the history of meteorology.

Guess everyone is a super sick pow chaser now. This app has lied all year just to drive revenue for it’s business partners. The snowfall prediction maps are garbage and basically suggest that it will always be the sickest conditions ever in two weeks.

Great app but are now charging too much, now you have to upgrade to get the services that were always standard before… had to debate renewal

This app has repeatedly failed me. On several occasions it’ll have 30-50 mph winds in a location I am going, I get there and it’s completely calm. Take out my kestrel, 3-5 mph winds. Really? Ok, not a big deal once, but this has happened several times now, apple weather has been more reliable than open snow. I really had high hopes for this app as I have been a loyal subscriber for years now.

This app charges ski resort to report fake snow

I get that it’s hard to forecast, but they’ll predicted 2 feet and I looked at the webcam and they didn’t even get an inch. They’re even reporting 3 inches when the trucks are dry. Got my hopes up and didn’t deliver accurate information

I used to really enjoy this app when it first launched. The predictions felt reliable and it was genuinely helpful for planning snowboarding trips. Unfortunately, over the past several years the price has continued to increase while the quality has noticeably declined. The forecasts are frequently inaccurate. I’ve planned multiple trips based on predictions that ended up being way off. For example, the forecast will predict 10 inches of snow, but only 2 inches actually fall. Other times it predicts little or no snow, and then I receive an alert from the resort that 6 inches have already dropped. When you’re planning trips that require travel, time off, and lift tickets, that level of inconsistency is frustrating. Most recently, I planned a last-minute trip to Whistler based on a heavy snow prediction. It turned out to be a huge disappointment and a waste of money because the conditions didn’t match the forecast at all. It’s a missed opportunity because the app used to be great. Sadly, I won’t be renewing my subscription.

They claim their service is free when the only free things offered (historical reports) are totally useless.

I use this as its the best place to have everything consolidated but man are the forecasts wrong. Every time snow comes up they show it far far exaggerated compared to everyone else until a few days pass then they chop their predictions in half if not more. They over predict wind essentially every day, the “feels like” will show -15 when everyone else shows 10 and guess who’s right? Not Opensnow. If you wanna check cams and trail maps and stuff easily it’s okay but this is a god awful weather app. Oh, and they use AI analysis (not very pro winter sports is it?) leading to a pretty serious price increase just recently.

This app is so infested with anti privacy trackers that it didn’t even load the initial screen. Thankfully my blockers worked. I wouldn’t use this app and would recommend the same for you, if you care even a little bit about your privacy.

This is a nice app but not worth what they are asking for when the data is from the ski resorts been using it for years but i only use it for 3 months so maybe worth 20 bucks for a subscription

This years app “improvement updates” are useless. One day shows 40” coming and the next it shows 6”….then back to 40”.. then 0-1”. The inaccurate reporting models with AI are awful. For years it has been great, dependable and predictable. However, now that it has gotten expensive, it is useless. Don’t waste your $ until they start reporting accurately again. Oh, and the premium subscription I pay for has a premium premium option now. I already pay for the premium… why take options away unless I upgrade again!?

For the amount we pay there should be video forecast. Been a fan of it since it started but the price goes up every year just for the weather? Don’t get much bang for buck.

Super bummed on the is App. Have been using it for a few years and it is more and more inaccurate. The long range is an absolute joke. Starting to make me think that they are in cahoots with the ski resorts to pump numbers for visits. Add the fact that they are charging even more for the long range when all a pipe dream. Canceled and will go back to standard weather apps.

Who does Open Snow think they are? Introduced another paid tier on to of their paid tier. They’re losing me with it. Things as basic as weather alerts need the super paid tier, not just the regular paid tier. I think they need to rethink. Their strategy. Canceling subscription. Buyers beware. [Edit] nobody is asking for premiums on top of premiums for basic features. While I appreciate the nice canned response, it’s doesn’t work.

Everything needs a subscription now and it's unreasonably expensive for a winter only app. They used to have reasonable free options but not it's not all locked. Why call yourself "OpenSnow" when your service isn't open? They need to restore their open source part.

Honestly I subscribe because the Tahoe weather dude is amazing. The app is fine but even after you’re a premium member they launch a new paywall and are always trying to upsell you. It’s really frustrating and shows a real lack of respect for existing subs. Hopefully Bryan goes to a different platform and I can cancel this app subscription.

They just keep raising prices every year. I’m out. Not worth the money anymore.
