ElevenReader: Read Books Aloud

I tested this app to listen to books from my Kindle library. The core concept is excellent, but a few critical playback and navigation issues need to be resolved. Pros: • Natural-Sounding Audio: Fantastic selection of high-quality, realistic AI voices. • Good Pacing: The playback speed and cadence feel incredibly smooth and natural. Cons: • Loses Reading Progress: The app frequently forgets where you stopped listening, forcing you to find your place all over again. • Poor Navigation: Scrolling is the only way to move through a book. There is no option to jump ahead by pages or chapters, making it tedious to find your spot. • Session Logouts: The app randomly logs users out of Kindle after a day of inactivity, compounding the progress-loss issue. • Playback Errors: I've encountered occasional crashes that force a full app restart. Bottom line: The audio quality is unmatched, but the developers need to fix the progress-saving bugs and introduce structured navigation features before I would consider upgrading to the paid version. In the current version I don’t see myself using this app very often if at all again.

2024 free tier user here. a lot of my old imports and files that i have already removed are still listed in your app. won’t let me get rid of them either.

I got a reminder email on Friday, October 9, 2026 that my free trial was ending, so I immediately went to find out how to cancel it. There was no way to do it in the app. The website wasn’t even able to be found. I sent emails to support, and just kept being told to use the app, website, or cancel in my iPhone settings under subscriptions, which doesn’t have it there either! I told them I needed help and was trying to cancel my free trial right away, and did not want to be charged, and they understood, and said they were creating a ticket for me, and I got responses, but the same ones. I was just notified it was called eleven reader, a different app, and was charged anyway! I looked at this app, and still have the same issues with no website being found, not in my iPhone settings under subscriptions, and no other way to cancel! I am very disappointed, and feel as if I have been scammed! I am already dealing with a Bible app for nearly a year for the same reasons as they continue to confirm I canceled right away, and yet continue to charge me every couple of weeks!

I am on ios, using this app on my kindle books accessed through Kindle on the web. The app has two major bugs that prompted me to request a refund of my $74 subscription fee. First, i cannot get it to change the spot at which it is currently reading. I got suggestions from AI, but nothing worked. Useless. Second, it will randomly quit auto-scrolling the pages. I’ll be reading along following the yellow-highlighted word it is currently reading and it will continue going off the bottom of the screen while the completed page stays. This company has no business charging money for it when it should be at-most a free-to-use beta test app. On a positive note, the voices and narration are fantastic. It uses a neutral voice for the narrative parts. It gets voice inflections for questions beautifully. When a character speaks angrily, the narration is spoken in a raised voice in anger. When there was a Mexican man speaking in English to an American couple, it even spoke his words with a Spanish accent. (The above described narration was for Ray Bradbury’s The Next In Line). I was blown away by the quality of the narration and couldn’t subscribe fast enough. TAKE MY MONEY! Alas the 2 problems I’ve described ruin the reading/listening experience. What good is an audiobook if you can’t choose which spot to read from? What is the point of an auto-scroll that won’t scroll? 10 thumbs down.

I’ve been trying to use this thing to read my Kindle books because it has better voices than the auto reader in the Kindle app, but this garbage can’t remember where I left off from one listening session to the next and there’s no way to tell it to start reading at a point of my choosing. It’s trash and I would definitely not pay money for it.

Love the app, voices are incredible especially for audiobooks. They capture the drama of it somehow. But the app is very buggy. Not being able to start playback, dropping out after 20 seconds, etc. has nothing to do with connection either cause this has been a problem for a while. Hope they fix it b

They make you agree to TOS and privacy policy before it’s possible to read it. Doubt it’s legally binding.

I was listening to a PDF book that I uploaded and in the middle of it it stopped working and I couldn’t listen anymore. I keep getting an error message. I checked again a month-ish later and it still isn’t working even though I have 30 free hours of listening time. I deleted the app and got it back so many times and still it doesn’t work

I tried the free trial and decided it was not for me. I deleted my account days before the trial was over. I was still charged the monthly rate. Make sure that if you sign up for a trial, you do it through Apple and not on their website like I did. Ugh.

You can’t change what version of the model it uses and the old one it used v3 was amazing but with v4 out now it automatically changed to v4 and its sound extremely ai When it tries to use emotion. I would not care if they just added a way to change between the models like on eleven labs but I pay 100$ and can’t even do that much. Will be canceling my subscription if it does not change it is horrible please let me go back to v3 it was amazing.

When I first used it had no kindle support so I tried to cancel. Now kindle works poorly with it. Use Peech instead

Books are not that great and it is impossible to deactivate or delete the account. I thought I did once, I sent an email and everything but nope! The positive reviews on this app HAVE to be fake!

Better make sure you cancel your free trial as soon as you agreed to it because I’m $100 poorer for an app that is absolutely not worth the money. And word to the wise do not request a refund via their system call The overseas customer service. I can’t believe I had to pay these idiots. $100 for a pointless feature that I will never really use. Thanks Instagram for the ad that I fell for.

This app used to be decent. A solid & consistent app, easy to navigate, didn’t crash etc. It was always rough around the edges, for an app that plays media it’s pretty terrible at organizing said media. And that hasn’t changed. Big bummer there. What seems to have made it worse in recent days is how the voices are inconsistent. For example they seem to fade in and out at random times, almost as if the voice speaking is getting further away from a microphone. Given the purpose of this app you can see why that shouldn’t happen. The other thing that’s gotten worse is the app’s “memory” in that, say you pick a voice for one book, put down the book, and start a new one with a new voice, then go back to book 1. The new voice sticks around even if it’s the old book. And then, you change it to the old voice, but when you step away and reopen the app, the new voice comes back. It’s like I’m being haunted by the new guy in town. I’m impressed with the voice generator, I can be picky about “who” reads my books. But the experience of navigating and using the app is frankly appalling and making me consider finding an alternative. I can only assume this is a result of the latest update, so I sincerely hope it gets fixed.

They charged my card that I had got a new one because I cannot cancel my subscription and they cannot find my account. The fact that I have to talk to someone that is AI is unrealistic when you have a legit reason to talk to a human in regards to their account and they will not help you. The CEO of this company needs to do better.

A lack of voices of any or very little options is to Choose a Black Man Read to those that would like that without having to do the work of creating one .

I had some issues suddenly with a different interface for Speechify and trying to access my books through Amazon. It was simply a matter of finding where they put the Accessibility reader, which connects to amazon book. But after about an hour of trying to find this, I looked for another reader and this one was recommended. It was not as intuitive and user friendly as Speechify. Even trying to pick and change voices was a bit glitchy, and then when I had it reading it suddenly started jumping all over the place and skipping whole sections. I deleted the app and canceled the free trial, pending subscription. I would not recommend this app. Go get Speechify. Have Snoop Dogg read to you! Ha!

The app crashes when trying to add correct pronunciation. Download doesn’t work. Subscription cancellation is almost impossible to do (had to go to the website). Do not trust the reviews over 4 stars, they are bot reviews. Not to mention the company responds with “please reach out”. Well I have and no response.

I downloaded the app and got the “Free” Trial. Eleven Reader sent me a notification that my trial was up in 1 day. I went to cancel the membership, and they would not let me delete my payment information. I signed out, and my card company notified me of a charge for $106.92 from ElevenLABS.IO. They declined the purchase and canceled my card, thankfully. I had to call and explain what happened, which I find sketchy on Eleven Reader’s part. I deleted my account immediately, and I will not ever use this app again. Zero Stars if that were an option. Do not recommend.
