Store ratings include star-only taps from in-app prompts, which skew high. The peak and recent figures come only from people who wrote a review, which skews low. Compare each against itself: the drop is the signal, and a big gap between the two usually means heavy rating prompting is masking unhappy users.

Gave up

★★ · v26.41.0 · Oct 14, 2026

This app helped tremendously during the bulk of my weight loss journey, but within the last few months each AI update has brought the app completely down. Its such a departure from what I started with that I dont even care to log my food now. Stopped paying for premium as well. I’ll keep the app to attempt to log from time to time when its something with direct nutrition facts but other than that…

Gamification and dietician features added SUCK

★ · v26.41.0 · Oct 14, 2026

They added a bunch of features recently. Most are innocuous or can be ignored or turned off. What apparently cannot be turned off is all the fireworks and high five celebrations every time you log an item. I don’t want this and you can’t turn it off. I have asked. Next they added feature that appears in the middle of a log of a meal suggesting something picked by Dietician Melissa. Again, cannot be turned off. I don’t NEED help planning meals and don’t ask for it. If some people want that, fine but it should be able to be turned off. I am not going to pay for this app again. I’ll switch to a more serious app like Chronometer that understands that people who are serious about their diet don’t need games and unneeded features.

Really Under Armour ??

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

$80 to get bar code scanning. Clearly you have realized no one uses any of the bloatware that’s been included besides the scanner so you hid it behind a pay wall. I’m happy to pay for it and I have but $80 is scandalous. Should I be waiting until you put typing behind a pay wall too?

Annoying push notifications

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

Spams my phone with push notifications for recipes, meal suggestions, logging reminders with no way to disable

Shows how much nutrients left you need for today

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

Has food database search/ barcode scan, taking photos of meals are paid

Used to be great, now it’s a pain

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

This app used to be by far the best fitness tracker app. Then it changed. They didn’t do things to make the paid version better. They just made the free version worse. I had the subscription version until they raised prices to over 20 a month. Most others are 20 or less for the year. Do yourself a favor and get one of the different ones from the start, they out price the value, cut the features out of the free version (you can’t even add something multiple days in a row without paying). Just start with something that doesn’t lock away all basic features or doesn’t charge you a month what others do a full year

Ehh

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

Too many questions, just let me count calories.

New design

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

I liked the old design better. This one doesn’t let you see your daily log for all meals at once as easy as you use to.

1,200 minimum calorie requirement

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

My doctor approved a 1,000 minimum calorie requirement for a 5’ 2” woman who weighs 115 lbs. Your arbitrary minimum 1,200 calorie requirement doesn’t make sense.

Obsolete

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 13, 2026

I’ve had this app since 2012. I always keep a new iPhone but unfortunately I’m in between phones due to losing one. The app looks the same as 2012 besides rounding the buttons and the ability to stack by meal or show details. On my iPhone 14 Pro Max the food keeps disappearing that I logged and I accidentally ate over my limit, I’m done with this. App. I have no idea what they’ve updated all these years that would cause it not to work because as I’ve said I have used this app for upwards of 15 years. So annoyed!

Please bring back the old format

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 12, 2026

I don’t know why the format has changed SO much. I hate clicking through the calendar, manually dropping down my meals, having a premium option right in the serving section so i hit it on accident almost EVERY time. And WHY is the barcode scanner free in every other country BUT the US? That makes zero sense. I don’t need meal plans or recommendations; that’s not what this app was intended for. Now it seems to be a constant push for premium, which is kind of a joke. I still use it because I have for YEARS, but I genuinely dislike the changes that have been made in the last year or so.

The new AI is 👌

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 12, 2026

Someone in marketing told them they needed AI and apparently they outsourced it to someone’s 80-year-old parent who logged into ChatGPT with their AOL email. It’s pretty hilarious honestly and it doesn’t ruin the rest of the app. But you still get one star for being thirsty

Don’t waste your time - create an Excel spreadsheet on your IPhone, set your formulas and off you go

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 12, 2026

There’s at least five (5) other Apps they say you need to download for it to work properly, and of course they all cost $$. I used this app many years ago and it was great! So I updated my prior info and decided the free version would work great for what I needed. Now, three (3) weeks later and it’s been ma nightmare. Since I’m a repeat eater I decided to enter my own food lists, nutritional value and etc. I scoured every jar, box and can in my pantry, fridge and freezer.to enter the correct information off the package. Unfortunately, in the beginning I’d log my food only to find items I had definitely entered, and saved were missing. I summed it up as a beginners error. Now, I’m so agitated as a food I log in every day, is no where to be found, and there’s no preloaded item anywhere near the actual nutritional value.. PS: Without paying you can’t edit a preloaded food. Do you really need 15 listings for a slice of bread? At least let us edit and delete the preloaded foods.

Used to be much better

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 11, 2026

There’s so many prompts and suggestions the app comes across as creepy and invasive. The AI everything is annoying. I genuinely could not care less about your dinner suggestions. This is an app. Not a coach, not a buddy, this is a piece of technology, and it needs to stay in its lane. Please tell whichever executive who is in AI psychosis that normal mentally well-adjusted people do not want their food journal talking to them and getting ideas about them. It’s weird.

Just get Cronometer

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 11, 2026

Cronometer is way better barcode scan is not locked behind a paywall ads are short then you can skip you can see your nutrition stats without paying once I stopped paying for premium I went looking for another app

STOP WITH THE UPDATES ALREADY!!

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 11, 2026

I've had MFP for 10 years now- both free and premium. It has kept me on track with my macros. It was so easy to navigate and create my recipes. Yes I'm saying 'was' because with these updates and new interface in the last year or so, it's so confusing to navigate through now. I wish y'all would have just kept it as is- simple. Not to mention, when y'all were doing all the changes my data disappeared. I had years of data under "my foods" and "my meals" all gone. Customer service never figured it out. It shows up on the desktop, but will not appear on the app. It's so frustrating!!! Where's my data?? You guys say, it shows up on your end. Well that doesn't really help me now, does it? Thanks for nothing! As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Y'all should have left it as is.

Sad

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 11, 2026

I hate that you have to upgrade to scan. You never used to.

Pain in the A, and have to pay.

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 10, 2026

It won’t let you do anything accurately without paying for a premium version. Everything I search has incorrect values on at least one of the three- protein, fat, or carbs.

Scanning

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 10, 2026

Scanning barcodes should be free not just paid.

Absolutely ruined and getting worse

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 10, 2026

After four months of hoping the app redesign would be rectified, I am writing to discourage anyone who is about to pay for premium — as I did shortly before the redesign ruined what had been an outstanding app. Every update brings new features that are annoying, like the confetti with almost every entry that continues despite numerous complaints (mine included). This week’s update added a link to a “tip” where the swipe function had been, no way to bypass it. To make sure I hadn’t missed some miraculous design improvements, I scrolled through the recent reviews. For longtime members (like me, since 2014), the comments are overwhelmingly negative. Once again I have sent an email to customer service that will likely generate another meaningless response. I will never be a paid subscriber again. I am writing again to say I cannot believe that this app could get worse, but the latest update is making it unusable. I’m getting constant “atta boys” when I log something. I am not five years old! And when I log from my list I have to scroll to return to where I selected an item to log. I just can’t believe that you care so little about all these customers, many of them for 10+ years like me, who are furious that you refuse to FIX THIS. If it were free I would simply walk away, but when I requested a refund I got a warning that all my data could be lost. I am furious but no one at MFP seems to care.

Not Recommend

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 9, 2026

This app keeps changing my personal settings of calories goals to their default recommended calorie. It’s very frustrating that I have to adjust it back multiple times within one week. And the bar code scan for detecting calories often doesn’t work. In short, too much manual work for an app that was supposed to make people’s life easier.

Paywalls

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 8, 2026

Put any useful features behind a paywall.

What happened?

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 8, 2026

Premium subscriber since… 2019. App feels vibe coded these days. Used with watch in 2019 to hit fitness goals. Setting up the same system now and the experience is terrible. Calorie goal in settings is 1500. Showing up in my daily diary as 1200. Workouts not syncing. Gym sessions on my wearable show as having burned 0 calories despite tracking a heart rate and duration. Internet says it’s because of a weird feedback loop between MFP and the wearable and that it affects other wearables too, making it a MFP problem imo. Canceled membership. It shouldn’t be this hard- especially when it wasn’t this hard 7 years ago.

Inaccurate

★★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 7, 2026

This app started off great many years ago. I understand as time has went that features that were free have become accessible for paying members only. The problem is it is ridiculous how many food options are there to select that are inaccurate. I spend more time comparing the macros on my nutrition label to the selections in the app than anything else. If I didn’t do this, though, I feel my macros would be significantly off.

Terrible UI: Used to be Good

★ · v26.40.0 · Oct 7, 2026

Go for Cronometer or LoseIt! Don’t get this app. They’ve changed the UI and it is so hard to see now how many calories you have left, what any of your meals involved and how many calories or any of your nutritional data. This app is garbage now. All of its utility is gone. You can’t easily view anything anymore. I don’t know why they changed the UI like this.
