#46 top-grossing, Navigation
Store ratings include star-only taps from in-app prompts, which skew high. The peak and recent figures come only from people who wrote a review, which skews low. Compare each against itself: the drop is the signal, and a big gap between the two usually means heavy rating prompting is masking unhappy users.

Yet another “off road” app with nothing marked in my area when almost 1/3 of my state is dirt roads. Pathetic
I’m noticing when I’m looking at images of a trail it will go to the back to the beginning every time. For example, I’ll be on picture 22/40 and it will jump all the way back to the first picture. Then I’ll have to swipe to get back to where I was. No idea why that’s happening. It’s on my phone and iPad. Both apps are utd with the latest version.
Activated free trial, app instead processed an entire annual subscription. Emailed customer support and they never responded.
Curious as to why ‘Ram’ is not listed in ‘What vehicle do you drive?’ The app wouldn’t let me continue until I picked ‘Jeep’, which is wrong. Will the app’s info now for my trips be misdirecting me into situations my Ram can’t safely do? Will update the stars if/when Ram is added to the list.
Touchy and slow to respond. Update it.
Here’s an idea. Let your potential customers see the app for a set amount of days and then disable it if not subscribed. The model of subscribing with a free trial and then canceling before the deadline is beyond frustrating. I will no longer support any company that uses this model. It’s been my experience that canceling before being charged is usually next to impossible.
I have a 4x4 subaru, so i’m confused as to why it’s not an option..?
Every time I try to sign up to use this lockware it says I need an internet connection. Yeah no sht. I’m at home on 1G fiber with 4 bars of 5G cell. Derp. Useless from the get go.
Any company that leads with mandatory arbitration has zero respect for their customers. Stand behind your product or expect the few who actually read the terms to avoid you like the plague you are!
Seems lately lots of bugs in the app. Map screen went completely blank out on a trip with no service. What’s the point of offline data if you can’t use it!
It freezes and glitches often…
Don’t bother if you’re looking for the free version. Everything you click on requires the annual membership. I don’t mind paying. But for now I’m just trying to find an app that I like and works for me. Since I can’t make it do anything without paying for a year, it’s a hard pass for me.
Looking for an alternative to GAIA and OnX pricing. Trails Offroad doesn’t seem to allow uploading. Search for help reveals you can download tracks and upload to GAIA. Why not just use GAIA to start with? Trails can be shared in GAIA.
This app is pretty much useless for Michigan trails. Shows hardly anything. Glad I spent some time checking it out before I had to pay the subscription.
This app is for people who collect ducks. The ratings are all over the place for trails. Trails that deserve a 1 are rated 4, there’s trails rated 6 or 7 that are barely a 3. The photos showing the trails are even worse. I got this app by mistake because I forgot to cancel the subscription. Don’t make the mistake of buying this app. Massive waste of $40.
The app showed zero trails within 200 miles of my. I’m 100% positive that there are dozens possibly hundreds of trails within a 200 mile radius. if you live in Eastern Washington or Idaho this app is useless.
We live in northern Idaho/western Montana where there are thousands of incredibly off road trails but almost none are mapped in this app. Worthless for us.
I’ve been a paid subscriber for years just because the maps and trails are great for research before going out. But DO NOT rely on this app in offline situations; it will leave you stranded without direction in the middle of nowhere, even if you update the app and download the offline maps immediately before going out. This has been a problem for years, and the developers do not care about leaving you stranded. Fine for research but make sure you have two or three trustworthy back up navigation options for offline, because this app does not work offline.
Updated the app and doesn’t open now
This could be a 5 star app with just a few improvements. I’m a paid subscriber and I have been using Trails Off-road for years. The worst part about the app is that it does not let you delete states that you have saved for offline use. The other thing is downloading of maps takes FOREVER. I’m on home gigabit Wi-Fi and still takes forever to update maps. Lastly the Apple Car Play interface (while nice to have) is quite worthless. The only info it gives you is your dot on a map that’s it. No waypoints, distances, map info, nothing. Just a dot on an unlabeled worthless map.
I’ve been using it for the past several years now and thought it was the best app for off-roading until recently. It constantly crashes and now it keeps telling me I’m offline when I’m connected to Wi-Fi. It has almost become so unstable that I’m probably not going to renew my subscription later this year. I really don’t want to have to back to one of the competitors but I may have no choice.
Has virtually no trails east of Colorado. No KAT, no GA traverse, etc. Seems like a solid app but useless without trails…
So the maps are fine, but the app and registration process are terrible. Tried to renew my membership. Payment wouldn’t go through. Then payment went through randomly 3 days later. Now it won’t let me login to my account. Password reset doesn’t work - email never comes (no it’s not in junk). App onboarding fails on last step. So, if you can actually register and login and pay for membership then maybe this app will be useful. But thats a big “if”because I’ve been dealing with this since I first downloaded app and signed up on website years ago. They might know trails but they clearly do not know tech. Get it together! You’re a mess trailsoffroad!
I want to like this app so much, but it isn’t reliable. My app version is always up to date and yet, half the time the map doesn’t show anything, especially when zooming in and out. Downloaded states have to be redownloaded. Now that Overland Bound has all their new features, deleting this app as it’s not needed anymore.
Disappointed only one windrock trail and no royal blue or brimstone. Badlands in Indiana? Nope……
What would it take to build a viable competitor, what would it cost to run every month, and a prompt to get started. Generated from the reviews on file; one LLM call per brief. Set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for a real brief; the stub only fills in a template.
