I think it’s absurd that I need to pay to get off my phone, at this point I’m just going to put my phone in a lock box

Doesn’t even block my internet browser anymore. They changed it couple months ago ago and since than it’s useless

Had been using this for years. My god what is this new interface update. Super buggy, blocks that I deleted keeping magically reappearing. The app even adds random blocks I never created. What on earth is going on over there at Opal. How can it be this bad.

Prompted me to select apps to allow or disallow, then would give a vague error and not save information or only part of the selection. Literally did not work. No context, no clarification, no way to move forward without spending hours. After a terrible AI intro, I just gave up and deleted it.

I like the design but it’s the most buggy app I’ve ever used, and the bugs can often be destructive. I can’t remember how many times I almost rage uninstalled it and eventually I did. For the subscription price it’s outrageous. Response: I actually contacted support before and got a template response that wasn’t helpful at all.

This app was great up until mid-2026. Recently introduced updates are incredibly buggy and the new UX is a disaster. App blocking is no longer dependable, stats are inaccurate, and the design is messy. Feels like the developers leaned into AI slop. Very unfortunate. Hate to see a great product fail like this.

Is this new version Vibe coded? It doesn’t make any sense, the app lags like crazy now, and has many bugs. Kept finding new ones every day. Uninstalled, sad to see such a nose dive in quality.

To setup it takes you through a million loops before you can set it up. It’s easier to delete the app than to use it. It’s also over priced compared to other brands that do the same thing. It has too many limitations.

I actually do appreciate Opal, in general. It’s definitely helped me cut down on screentime. Was disappointed tho, that they’re taking the typical bogus approach to customer service by making themselves as unreachable to customers as possible. All I wanted was to send a quick message to the design team, and got stuck in some loop of community forums. I am not wasting my time on that BS. Seems rather ironic that a company claiming to help keep people off their screens would add layers of app garbage for what could just be a simple contact form— click and send. Disappointing. And all I had to say, as feedback, was that the backdrop has switched to an ocean scene, but it’s clearly something like AI. The sound doesn’t align with the scene, and it’s clearly a split screen-the same waves mirrored on both sides. Believe me, your customers do spend enough time in nature to know the difference between real ocean and fake. And I will not support AI in any way shape or form, so if this continues, you’ll have lost me. There’s also no way to mute the fake ocean sounds. If I’m checking my apps in public, I don’t need extra noise. Design a way to permanently mute the sounds in settings. And don’t waste our time with useless customer service blocks. It just tells me you’re eating up over $100 a year without wanting to actually serve your customers.

A subscription is required to even use the app so after you put in all of your personal information and allow it to track your phone, you don’t even get to use the app without payment

Ive started using another app called Freedom now - if you want the old, simple Opal back, I recommend switching to Freedom!! This app used to be SO simple and easy to use. It was great. Sometime around mid 2026 they changed the entire appearance and functionality of the app and it is ridiculously hard to set up a simple blocking session now. It isn’t even worth the effort to use it anymore. There is way too much going on in the app and too many ways to try to set up a simple timer and none are easy. Nothing is intuitive anymore. They need to return to an easy timer that you can use anytime and that REMEMBERS which apps you had blocked previously.

After I noticed it was going to charge me to use this app I attempted to delete it and it said I had to put in a pin. However I never set a pin so It did not allow me to delete the app.

It seems when I start a Focus mode now, I can only have five blocked apps by default, but I'm selecting 20-plus distracting apps in the distracting app section. There is no way for me to start a Focus session with all the distracting apps blocked. The exponential blocking time as I unblock the focus more times is also gone. It really makes me sick of this updated app

App updates keep introducing significant issues that completely violate the purpose and value of the app. I’ve reached out to support multiple times and concerns have not been addressed. Doesn’t get the job done, isn’t cheap.

used to be so good but now there’s a pay wall for everything. I don’t even know what it’s asking me to pay for, just won’t let me use the focus button without paying. This wasn’t happening before so not too sure what’s going on but I’m really disappointed bc this app has helped me so much through the years :/

Lost all my stats and custom blocks after an app update. Unsubscribing as a result.

Omg!! Even after deleting this app, the restrictions don’t go away!!!!!

I like the idea of the app but once the app stops working for unknown reasons the streak is reset and you will never be able to collect the endurance opals. And because of this I will stop chasing the opals. Thank you for your time. I won’t come back.

The app is fantastic, but it drained my phone battery so quickly! Within a few hours, my phone as almost dead without me even having used it.

Latest update causes app to crash. Cannot open it at all

stop making changes to what’s already working. because it’s literally no longer working. no one cares if a block is called a rule or whatever. no one cares how this app visually looks because the point is to stop looking at your screen. we want the functionality. I have a block for an app after 45 mins but I was able to be on it for 3 hours today. this isn’t the first time and I shouldn’t have to reset my blocks for your creation to work.

Crashes upon launch every time on iOS 27. Saw a very clever ad, so I decided to download this app. Impossible to use as it crashes every single time.

Been trying for a few days now to open the app and change some settings, but everytime I try to open it, the app closes immediately. I’ve restarted my phone, updated my system to the current version, and deleted and reinstalled the app. All these attempts have not made the app work. I’m hoping this is a bug and will be fixed with an update soon.

This app sucks. It’s so expensive.
