Insta360

The hw is impressive. The stabilization, the quality, and the versatility of the 360 video on the x6 are impressive. Software however is absolutely horrendous. I use it on my iPad Pro and also on an Android phone. First off, the professional editing apps all have understood that the iPad where I use this software is supposed to deliver a premium experience ( see adobe and apple editing apps). Clearly the iPad app was an afterthought @ insta360, and is especially full of bugs. I also have an Android phone and the app is not much better, but it's certainly worse on the iPad. The iPad app looks like an experiment. The aspect ratios vary dynamically from screen to screen instead of staying full screen. Sometimes it rescales down to a vertical phone-like experience and then it becomes impossible to even click on the back button because it's covered by the window controls of iPad. The app randomly displays messages in Chinese, while I'm in English -and a few other languages speaker -just not Chinese. Worst, my iPad played from the device a completed two hours time-lapse I was very excited about. Then as I went on doing something else, the app disconnected and the app erased my media from the device. I was not able to recoup the media. Support, which was praised by many reviewers, does escalate then it goes into a black hole. Overall, very impressed with the hardware, very disappointed by the software which makes the whole experience quite useless.

I purchased the Insta360 X5 and took it on vacation. I made an awesome video that I was very happy with — and then the problems started. The finished video would not export to my phone. When I finally did get it to export, the audio disappeared half way through the video. Customer service has been HORRIBLE. They never resolved the original issue, and I have now been going back and forth with them for months. I have footage from a second family vacation that I haven’t even bothered turning into a video because I’m not willing to spend hours editing something when I have zero confidence it will export. Their support team has ignored requests, missed multiple deadlines that THEY established, and has repeatedly failed to escalate the situation to anyone with actual decision-making authority. My free cloud storage expired while all of this was going on. I asked them to restore or extend it so they could finish troubleshooting the problem and I could eventually create the second vacation video. That request has gone unresolved as well. I refuse to pay for cloud storage when the company has not even demonstrated that its software works. The camera itself is impressive, which makes this even more annoying. But a great camera is not worth much if the software fails and the company will not support its product. After months of chasing Insta360 for a resolution, I would strongly recommend thinking twice before buying anything from them. If you did, return it while you still can.

I have so many issues with this app…. As someone trying to edit longer form 360 video it’s such a pain to have the app crash every 10 minutes ruining my workflow and losing a clips worth of progress. Also, key frames frequently don’t keep the correct frame and I find myself dealing with unwanted zooming. Many times after exporting I discover that certain clips did not retain the manual reframing I’ve done to them or randomly zoom the pov in all the way from a wide view to something as narrow as <90°. Causing me to have to go back and fix parts of the video and then re export. I also agree with many other reviewers that the app can’t decide what it wants to be. The snapshot feature to take screenshots from clips rarely works and gets stuck in the exporting process. I’ve had to rely on other apps to take quality screenshots for thumbnails. When viewing a clip from my downloaded album, it keeps playing the audio even after backing out to the app’s homepage. This stacks with multiple clips so there are times when the audio from 2+ clips are still playing even though I’m not watching them. The only way to fix is to force quit the app and restart. Working on an iPad Pro with hundreds of gigs worth of free storage space for the length of video I’m editing. I’ve sent an email about some of these issues without response.

Only the app takes already more than 2,5G! Please thinking about make function lean

So complicated to activate. Ace pro 2 I will return. This tomorrow , not worth it. And it is disappointing !

Unfortunately the app struggles with WiFi exports from multiple of my insta 360 cameras when exporting batches of media, which is the only feature I needed the app to follow through with.

Awesome app when it works however almost every time I go to record a clip it kicks me out of the app.

Literally crashes all the time. Lose progress on your edits that took hours. Very frustrating

The app developer is so concerned with gimmicky functions and creating massive updates but their own “expensive” remote display will no longer connect. Update after update I continue to grab my go pro because it actually works The camera, remote and app forever have connectivity issue and with the security concerns I do not use the app. I generally delete after checking to see if the latest update resolves my connectivity issue and delete it after being disappointed. If you like gimmicky photoshop features baked in because you don’t have photoshop this is probably ok but the paid you tubers are lot telling you the whole truth

This app is the worst. Didnt pay all the money for a camera to get constantly bombarded with ads. Switching to DJI or gopro when I sell this garbage

can not edit anything, it keeps crashing everytime I try to edit video. So what is the point of having this camera, if the photos/videos can only stay in my camera and I cant export anything. It just becomes an expensive toy :(

This app sucks Every time you try to edit or record footage from the camera it either lags or gets stuck which makes it hard to edit the videos.

The only thing I need the app for is for gps info. However, I can not figure out how to set it to MPH.

This app lacks basic professional functionality like visually monitoring audio levels on the Luna ultra, which is is inexplicable for equipment that can be used professionally. The competition has been doing this for years. Maybe worry less about silly features and focus more on features that can appeal to professionals — the people will to spend real money for your products.

If you start editing an ai generate video you will not be able to remove the watermark without starting over wasted 2 hours. Also the keyframes do not work. They should move smoothly and continuously from key frame to frame not abruptly. The curve feature does not work on ai video not sure if it works elsewhere. I was not able to create a smooth transition. Instead it jerks at the last second.

The constant advertisements for the cloud storage are infuriating. I hate the pop up ads for other insta products. This app went from utilizing the camera you bought to pushing their subscriptions and other products to consumers who already bought them. The explore page needs to just disappear. Full of ads, ai content, and a social feed I care nothing about. Does nothing to improve the experience of using insta 360 cameras. Disappointed this is the direction insta360 is going.

1 star until this app is fully compatible with iPads, but not any iPad, I’m actually talking about iPad Pro M5 with way more computing power than any iPhone and we still have to load the X6 videos in proxy mode, that’s just unacceptable. But what if I wanna export in ProRes on a mobile phone, it should be no brainer. You charge a premium on this brand brew camera but your software is noticeably behind on both mobile and computer devices. Fix that please.

They are quietly removing the Spatial Capture feature from the US app.

In short: Logical hierarchy is non-existent, tons of nonsensical tapping around, and despite opening on iPad the interface is not optimized for the extra space.

Love the camera. It feels solid, and has awesome picture quality and good controls. The app is another story. If you want an app bloated with ads for AI services and cloud storage popping every time you open OR swap pages, this the camera for you. I bought the Ultra GO, and I cannot imagine thinking it’s okay to screw up a decent app with ads after users have paid around $480 for a camera. Unreal. There’s a “product promotions” tab to turn off notifications for their ads, but it DOES NOT WORK. Insta360, I’ve heard you’re supposed to be a good brand. Stop acting like Temu. Thanks.

I bought an Insta360 GO Ultra because I wanted a great camera and a clean, professional app to control it and manage my footage. What I did NOT pay for was an app filled with advertisements, promotions, recommendations, and other unwanted content. This is a camera app. It should focus on the camera: shooting, settings, editing, transferring files, and managing footage. That’s it. I don’t want to open the app and see ads or other promotional clutter that has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m trying to accomplish. When someone spends hundreds of dollars on a premium camera, the companion app should feel like part of a premium product — not an advertising platform. Please give users a simple option to completely disable advertisements, promotions, recommendations, and unnecessary third-party content. I bought an Insta360 camera. I want a camera app — not a billboard. Great camera. The app experience needs serious improvement. This not camera this advertising factory !
