#30 top-grossing, Food & Drink
Store ratings include star-only taps from in-app prompts, which skew high. The peak and recent figures come only from people who wrote a review, which skews low. Compare each against itself: the drop is the signal, and a big gap between the two usually means heavy rating prompting is masking unhappy users.

I installed this app on my new IPad. What was for free on my old IPad is now for Subscription Only. So how do I get access to my Saved Recipes without subscribing?
Then it becomes worthless
I have used this app for YEARS. I go to pull up a recipe to find it’s limited and now wants me to pay a super expensive sub to be able to save unlimited recipes. Time to find an alternative because this is losing me as an advocate for this app
I don’t mind they switched to a paid subscription model. I DO mind that they switched without warning any existing users. Some are now locked out of the recipes they’ve saved. Some still have the recipes, but can no longer add new ones. Plus - there’s no way to export the library you’ve built to another platform.
This app used to be free, and it was great overall. Now people who have had this app for multiple years are pigeonholed into subscribing to this app to keep our recipes. This type of business model should be illegal. Thanks a lot RecipeBox.
I’ve been saving recipes on this app for free for >2 years. Now to access any of them I had to do a seven day free trial and then pay for a subscription. Copying all of my recipes then canceling :(
I had an (apparently) tricky issue with my login, and after multiple exchanges with customer service, it still has not been resolved. Accepting that I’ll just have to eat the subscription cost, which is ridiculous.
Bait and switch. Probably one last cash grab before they sell the app. Uninstalled and deleted my account.
This app used to be good but now every time I open it, try to save a recipe, etc. I am bombarded with screens asking me to pay for things I could do for free before. It is extremely intrusive and makes for a worse user experience. I also have problems sometimes with importing recipes. I will probably be switching to a different app
RecipeBox used to be amazing but suddenly I can no longer use even the most basic features without an expensive annual subscription. Find another option instead.
All of a sudden, we go from FREE to PAY. 5 day notice. I recommend switching to Flavorish.
This app used to be free and it was very convenient and easy to use however, now there’s an annual fee of almost $60 which is ridiculous $60 for a lifetime use might be OK but $60 a year no way
They could have warned me that the app was going from free to $29.99 a year! That's a ridiculous price, and now I've lost all my recipes!
All of the items that I saved from Facebook videos are saved just as a video. It says unable to transcribe most of the time.
Like everyone else, I wish I had never downloaded the update. Now there are ads and paywalls. Will be looking for a new solution.
i liked the app and it works effectively, although there’s a limit to how many recipes you can add (2) in a day for free. especially when you are first gathering all the recipes, i hate that i have to pay extra to just add on recipes. i understand for features like the grocery store bit, but just to add recipes is so dumb.
Good app but they hide the price till you save too many then pop a $55 per year price tag on
Another one great app falls to “innovation” and greed. Just look at the other reviews. Like everyone else I’ve loved this app for years cause it was easy to use. It was free and it was a place I could put all of the recipes that I found online and I had from my family. Why do all the app companies think that we want an AI built into their app?
The app appears free, but after adding a limited number of recipes it blocks further use behind a trial. This limitation wasn’t clear to me before downloading.
This used to be one of my favorite apps. I really just used the URL import feature to keep track of some of my favorite recipes versus bookmarking them in Safari. Recently the developers introduced an update to make you pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee to use it. I would have paid $20 one time to keep my recipes organized in this app, but $60/year is insane. Bye!
Suddenly I don’t have access to recipes I’ve been making for years! Everything I’ve ever saved to my account has disappeared. Oddly enough, this seems to have happened at the same exact time that the app tried to force me to purchase the paid version. I will not be extorted, so I guess I’ll just never be making any of the recipes I saved in this app again. Going to look into legal opinions, though, because years of my data should not have been deleted without my consent. The people who run this app are pure scum and will get what’s coming to them if my recipes are not restored immediately!
Do not use this app. It was free for years and suddenly paywalled itself. All of my recipes that I have entered, created, etc. are now gone. I am livid.
No longer free, all prior recipes were lost
This app lost ALL of my recipes that I had saved. Now I can’t see any of them because you have to create a subscription & pay just to log in. Are you kidding me?! That’s how you went from the best app to the worst app ever.
Constant ads, constant, pop-ups, full page hostage screens that prevent you from getting to your recipe. I already paid for this app and now it’s full of ads.
What would it take to build a viable competitor, what would it cost to run every month, and a prompt to get started. Generated from the reviews on file; one LLM call per brief. Set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for a real brief; the stub only fills in a template.
