Waking Up: Meditation & Wisdom

I guess if anybody is wondering as I was it’s $12.50 a month or $150 a year.

Can’t support an app that benefits someone who preaches peace and wisdom while simultaneously platforming people who compromise that peace in the very way he says to be on guard for in this app.

The constant stalling of the playback is extremely frustrating and overshadows the other good qualities of the app

I subscribed to this app based on the introductory course that builds each lesson on the previous lessons. $150 for a year of what I thought was going to be lessons that would take me deeper into my meditation practice. 30 days later, after they have your money they cleverly change the format to a generic daily 10 minute meditation. There are free apps that offer the same thing. They also claim they will refund your money if you email support. I did so on July 19. It’s now July 30 and they are still “processing” the refund, which I’ve come to expect will not be sent. I’ll update this if they do refund my remaining 11 months but would never recommend this deceptive app to anyone. Edit: Refund finally received on August 6

I canceled my subscription after learning that Sam is supports Israel’s genocide. This app also contains usage tracking software for no good reason. Look elsewhere.

Look up Sam Harris and his beliefs before downloading. Especially if you care about Gaza.

They make it virtually impossible to cancel your membership. There is no way to do it on the app or on the site. Also, the UX is horrible. I expect better.

Sam - there is no objectivity on genocide. I had to delete this app. Very useful tool.

I got an ad for this app and thought I’d give it a try. After downloading it I looked around a bit and saw nothing but white men. I was shocked to see the welcome message was by Zionist and Islamaphobe, Sam Harris. And then looking around more, a high percentage of the recordings are all with Sam Harris. No thanks! Sigh. I’m tired of only hearing from men and especially those who are justifying a genocide. How is this compassionate or enlightened???

The app is good overall but it's hard to try to take advice about inner peace when Sam Harris is a supporter of the genocide in Gaza.

Save your money and get the more popular proven apps like Calm. The meditation clips are guided by amateurs who speak in abrupt sentences without a calm and soothing voice. The instructions are not congruent and I often felt jarring experience with this app.

I realize you’re operating a business… but c’mon. There ain’t even a calming ocean sound included as a teaser. Cheapskate much? Everything is locked upon downloading. Your responses to reviews that “Money shouldn’t keep you from meditating” means that you’re not even listening to your potential base. Ya gotta offer a “little” something to get “alotta” something, know what I’m saying here? $$ You just lost my potential subscription, regardless of what your geo-political views are! It does me no good to never know what you are so talented (as you proclaim). Make this make sense. Include some teaser clips and maybe I’ll be back.

Horrendous app. I track app subscriptions on App Store. This Bypasses App Store subscriptions to secretly (with zero notices) charge you $20 mo they as you forget about it.

Paid BS only $xx.xx a year!

content vibe is off. needs better voicing and new writer.

Sam’s political activism is in conflict with his mindfulness efforts. His hypocrisy and racism are unacceptable. Supporting genocide in Gaza while supporting theocracy in Israel is not ok. He hates Muslims, but isn’t able to separate theocracy from individuals. All of this troubles me and I can’t support him at all in any way.

Sam you have an opportunity to bring something meaningful to real people. But you fail them because they have less ego than you and every guest you’ve ever had…I guess your audience is other thinkers. If so, have fun! The real world spins.

I do not like having to install an app before I learn there’s no functionality without a $160 subscription. This is slimy.

I paid for a family plan for a year and felt it wasn’t worth the money. I enjoyed the 30 day intro course because I felt like it taught me the “why” behind meditation, but after that, I felt like the content was way overpriced. And now that I see what a hateful man Sam Harris, I would rather not give him anymore money.

That someone with his politics espouses mindfulness of any kind. Very disappointed. Will not be paying for this subscription any longer.

Terrible and not a wise man at all

I understand a lot, or even most of the content being paywalled, but I couldn’t find a single thing I could interact with and listen to other than “How is Waking Up Different”. The content might be good, if you wanna pay $150 a year. Maybe the 7 day trial is enough for you to use it enough and see how you like it, but not for me right now.

I downloaded and wanted to try this out. I opted for the free trial (7 days) and immediately cancelled the same day - so I wouldn’t forget. I just got charged $161.99 . And to top it off the only button that doesn’t work on the app is the “contact us” button.

App does not do much and Sam Harris is a bad person

See title. I have had numerous $60 and $120 charges come through. After my first charge of $120 I thought I canceled but here I am still getting charged. It’s super difficult to figure out how to cancel and I thought I was canceled, but I guess I’m not. I’m hoping someone from support can reach out to make this right because each time I try to write to support I get an error message. Good luck to anybody who subscribed.
